About the event

Join us at The College Park Aviation Museum on Saturday November 9, 2024, as we celebrate our veterans. We will present the Living History program “Iron Horses: The Helicopter as a Ride into combat.”

The beginning of modern-day military aviation started at College Park Airport in 1909. In 1924 the Berliner model “C” helicopter test took place on these same grounds. Forty years later helicopters would carry airmobile troops into combat in Vietnam; the helicopter would play an integral part of air combat.

Dressed as a Vietnam helicopter pilot, our historian will present the experiences of the veterans who flew the machines, those who rode them into battle, and those who cared for the ones who were carried off the field.
